A Commitment to Transparency: Breakthrough Recognized as GuideStar Exchange Gold Participant

Published: 14-May-2014 Breakthrough Greater Boston is proud to announce its recognition as a Gold Level Participant by GuideStar Exchange, a certification program that encourages nonprofit organizations' commitment to transparency.
The Gold Level certification denotes the highest level of commitment to transparency and accountability and is the most exclusive certification awarded. Currently, fewer than 1% of registered nonprofits in the United States (3,321 of more than 1.5M) have been awarded this certification level.
In addition to basic information required by the IRS, Breakthrough also voluntarily discloses its financial, governance, and program outcome information. “As a publicly funded organization, we feel it is our responsibility to ensure this information is accessible,” said Executive Director Elissa Spelman. “Databases like GuideStar, and locally, the Giving Common, provide a platform for donors and community members to learn and make informed decisions about an organization’s public value. We are committed to transparency and are proud to be one of the select organizations acknowledged with the Gold certification.”
GuideStar.org receives more than 10M visitors annually and facilitated the donation of more than $1B of nonprofit funding in 2013.
