Letter from Board Chair and Executive Director on Expansion to Boston

Published: 18-Jun-2012

Dear Breakthrough Friends,

Breakthrough Cambridge has reached a historic milestone and is about to turn an important corner.

In summer 2013, Breakthrough will open a new site in Boston! After 20 years of success in Cambridge, Breakthrough has determined we can help change the academic trajectories and career paths of more students and teachers in the Greater Boston area. With two sites, Breakthrough will serve double the number of highly motivated, high need students and promising future teachers!

We have recently confirmed TechBoston Academy in Dorchester as our host school in Boston. The 6th-12th grade Boston Public School has been recognized for many successes (including by President Obama who visited last year). Still, its leadership recognizes important areas in which they must grow to remain on a path of success – including out-of-school-time programming, which is the hallmark of Breakthrough.

In recognition of our future work in Cambridge and Boston, we are changing our name to Breakthrough Greater Boston. We believe this name will better reflect our work in an expanded geographic footprint. For more details, please read the official press release announcement.

We thank you for your support and hope you are equally enthusiastic at the prospect of Breakthrough doubling its impact across two cities.

Lissa Hodder
Board Chair
